The Cruz Family Home

Home Ownership

2006 was an exciting year of growth for our Homeownership Department. As our department’s needs have been expanding and growing we were pleased to have Madeline Mendoza join the department. Madeline will be working part-time with our Director of Homeownership, Laurel Miller, to provide the services to potential homeowners.

Through individual counseling and homeownership classes, we assisted 80 families in achieving their dream of homeownership. 18 of these families received downpayment and closing cost assistance through the American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI). These funds provided up to 5% of the purchase price of the home in the form of a forgivable loan. Without the hard work and dedication of our clients we would not have been able to have a record year!

In response to the rising number of foreclosures and “abusive lending practices” throughout our region the CDC, in conjunction with local lenders and other non-profits, has been working on creating a plan for the region to address these issues. The Montachusett Region, like the balance of Massachusetts, suffers from a disproportionate number of foreclosures and high cost loans made in lower income neighborhoods and to minorities.
