CURRENT CDC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
In Leominster, we recently completed construction on 40 units of LEED Certified affordable housing in what was formerly a mostly vacant storage building. This project preserves an historic structure that was in foreclosure and creates a welcoming gateway to the Comb and Carriage neighborhood. In Fitchburg’s Elm Street Area, the CDC has developed 38 units of housing with an additional 15 units in construction. All of the properties in construction have been acquired through foreclosure or receivership. Our organizing department works with residents in the Elm Street Area Neighborhood Association to identify problem properties, help the police fight crime, and create assets (such as community gardens and potentially artist housing). Our homeownership department proactively addresses the stability of real estate by preventing foreclosures and increasing the homeownership rate in the area with homeownership counseling.
